About the NSBA GHG Calculator
The NSBA Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Calculator is designed to help organizations quantify their direct and indirect emissions in a simple, transparent, and standardized way. Built for all businesses, both members and non-members, this free tool allows you to measure:
| Scope 1 emissions | Direct emissions from fuels used in company vehicles, equipment, generators, and on-site combustion. |
| Scope 2 emissions | Indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heat, or steam. |
Built using industry-standard methodologies, including the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, the calculator converts your activity data into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) using recognized emission factors from sources such as Environment and Climate Change Canada, the IPCC, and the U.S. EPA.
It is intended as an educational and planning tool to help organizations establish a baseline, strengthen internal reporting, and support early sustainability action.
Note: Results depend on the accuracy of the data you enter and should not be considered official third-party verification.
What You’ll Need Before You Begin
To calculate your emissions accurately, gather activity data from your chosen reporting period (often your fiscal year). Examples include:
Scope 1 – Direct Emissions
- Natural gas used (m³)
- Diesel, gasoline, or propane purchased (L)
- Refrigerant additions or top-ups (kg)
Scope 2 – Indirect Emissions
- Total electricity usage (kWh) per facility
Optional but helpful:
- Revenue or production data to calculate emission intensity

Disclaimer
The NSBA GHG Calculator and accompanying materials have been developed by the North Saskatoon Business Association (NSBA) for educational and informational purposes only. The calculator is designed to assist NSBA members in estimating their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions using publicly available emission/conversion factors and user-provided activity data.
While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the methodology and emission factors, results generated by the calculator depend on the accuracy and completeness of the activity data entered by users. The NSBA accepts no responsibility or liability for any errors, omissions, or outcomes arising from the use of this tool or any decisions made based on its results.
Users are advised to reference the calculator version and emission factor sources when reporting or communicating results externally. Additionally, any assumptions made while quantifying emissions should be documented to maintain transparency with users. Note that the NSBA may update or modify the calculator as methodologies or emission factors evolve.
